Daily Updates and Uploading Photographs
Daily Updates and Photography
During a U.S. Championship, supporters look to the US SAILING site daily to find out the results and all the news. It’s important that US SAILING has the current list of skippers and crew in case alternates or crew changes have occurred. Having pictures of the day’s racing is an important component of this daily update.
What seems to work the best is for one person to send a one-page report (a couple of paragraphs) to US SAILING at the end of each day.
That report is posted on the US SAILING championship site along with the list of who is in the top three places. We also put a link to the report right on our homepage –www.ussailing.org. At the end of the report, there is a link to the host club site where supporters can find out all the information and the full results.
The arrangement that is usually made with a local photographer includes US SAILING's rights to use the images, as long as proper photo credit is given. The photographer posts them on a server provided by US SAILING or if that’s not possible for some reason, sends them via e-mail that night to US SAILING which posts them in the photo gallery. The photographer is free to sell photographs directly to the participants.
To help when uploading photographs from the championship, US SAILING has created a separate site for the professional photographers to use. (See below) When a photographer gets onto the site, they will see a folder with the name of the particular championship on it and they should then upload the images into the folder. I will then move the images onto the championship's website. I would ask that your photographer check a few days before to ensure they have no difficulties in accessing the site.
US SAILING doesn't pay for images, so we want to give the photographer every opportunity to profit from their efforts.
If there are problems accessing this site, please e-mail webmaster@ussailing.org.

For Windows users:
Using Windows Explorer (Not IE – Internet Explorer) enter ftp://ftp.ussailing.orgin to the address bar. You will be prompted for a username and password (this is case sensitive).
username: ftpphoto
password: ftpphoto!
After successful login, navigate to the appropriate folder for your event. You can now drag and drop (or copy and paste) your photos into this folder.
For Mac users:
Note: From the Finder (Mac's equivalent to Windows explorer) you connect to FTP servers with read-only access. To copy files to an FTP Server, use an FTP program.
A 3rd party FTP program is required to do the upload - the native built in Mac tools have limited functionality and are not sufficient to perform this upload task. So you need to get an FTP focused program such as FireFTP from Mozilla, in addition to their firefox browser to gain full access to the ftp site using your Mac.
