For the Championship
1) Does not act as the Organizing Authority if the championship is hosted at their home club. In the event the National Chair is a member of the host club, a member of the committee or another individual must be delegated to assume the role for the planning and execution of the championship for that year.
2) Ensures that the regattas, including feeder, semi final and final events are being run under the US Sailing Board-approved conditions and regulations laid out for the championships.
3) Does not compete in the championship.
4) Works closely with Regatta Chair in case something falls through the cracks; develops check list to keep of all the details
5) Supports the host club's event chair and  the Regatta Chair has ALL the information he/she needs to run a US Sailing Championship
a) Regatta Championship Conditions (if applicable)
b) Notice of Race (NOR)Sailing Instructions (SI’s)
c) Copy of previous champ’s budget
d) Regatta format and proposed schedule
e) List of sponsors and what they provide
6) Writes the Notice of Race and approves the Sailing Instructions in accordance with the Racing Rules of Sailing.
a) Posts Notice of Race by January 31st for elimination events, Posts no later than March 1st for invitational events.
7) Has sole responsibility for choosing judges and ensuring the PRO has the appropriate certification.
a) The Chief Judge must be a senior or international judge – no exceptions.
8) Does not act as a judge, umpire or member of the Race Committee.
9) Approves the selection of the PRO – Regional or National Certification only. No exceptions.
10) Offers suggestions on what works and what doesn’t work Intervenes if the organization and/or execution of the National Final Series are in jeopardy.
11) Attends the championship. (see (a) above for exceptions.)
12) Returns US Sailing merchandise, banners, burgees and trophies.

Within US Sailing
1) Is the principle communicator to their committee including distribution of meeting times, agendas and minutes
2) Appoints the Committee, this includes Area Representatives and Members at Large. Final approval of the committee is by the US Sailing Board.
3) Receives, evaluates bids, and proposes future host clubs to their committee.
4) Oversees the awarding of the Championship trophies and monitors their care and condition.
5) Develops or amends Conditions as needed in accordance with the Racing Rules of Sailing.
6) Writes final report on status of championship to bring to the AGM.
7) Attends the AGM and any teleconferences and post minutes in a timely manner.
8) Institutes all actions and replies to all inquires in a prompt and professional manner
9) Works closely with US Sailing Championship Director; it’s a team effort
10) Assures that all things remain on schedule
11) If the championship is an elimination event, ensures that participation figures from eliminations are sent to US Sailing in a timely fashion
