Regatta Chair

·         Manages local assets/personnel

·         Assembles a team to help with the event; delegate early

·         Seeks out and vets PRO

o    Determines compatibility to event (i.e. suitable for kids, experience in specific format such as Team Racing & etc)

o    Follows US SAILING Championship Policy for Race Management found at: http://championships.ussailing.org/Default.htm

o    Discusses choice w/ National Chair

·         Gives input on CJ and other local judges

·         Works with the National Chair,  CJ and PRO on the NOR

·         Gives the SIs template to the PRO early

o    Facilitates communication between PRO and the CJ regarding the SIs

o    Makes sure SIs stay “on schedule”

·         Selects and develop local sub-chairs

o    Housing - develops the Housing Plan

o    Yacht Club Board of Director Liaison

o    Local Race Committee Liaison

§  Establishes contact w/ PRO to provide desired staffing levels

§  Is  responsible for gathering ALL the gear necessary to run these races and put it on the RC boats in advance

§  Maintains gear for RC, CJ, Mark Set, Coach, Safety boats

o    Scoring

§  Must be practiced with scoring program

§  Develops plan to quickly tabulate results; i.e. phoning in results from the water or other technologies

§  Prepares competitor list and results for RC daily before they leave the water

o    Transportation - develops the Transportation Plan

o    Safety/Medical - develops the Safety Plan

o    Food

§  Makes water and food available to ALL volunteers daily

§  Make sure coaches and RC know where water for competitors is stored

o    Power Boats/Safety Boats

§  Procures additional RC boats

§  Procures and organizes schedules and personnel for Spectator and Lunch boats, etc.

§  Is responsible for fueling and security of borrowed power boats

o    Communication/PR

§  Contacts US SAILING media staff prior to event

§  Is the local media contact

§  Prepares cell phone lists for PRO, CJ, Mark Set, OA, Regatta Chair, Scorer, Head Coach on a card to be given out to those who need them

o    Web site liaison  - coordinates with Communication/PR Chair

o    Program and other printed materials

o    Shore-side foreman

§  Prepares dry sail area

§  Manages daily launch and retrieve activities

§  Maintains order in the lot

o    Social/Entertainment

o    Local Weather guru

§  Prepares a local knowledge briefing for event

§  Either delegates or assumes responsibility for making daily weather info available

§  Maintains a shore-site watch on quickly changing weather situations

·         Manages the official schedule to avoid multiple versions causing confusion

·         Asks PRO and CJ what they need (specifically) while on the water during the event

o    What kind of boat do they prefer working from?

o    How many do they need (judges)?

o    How many dedicated RC boats? 

·         Tells PRO how many safety boats you will provide, on the water, FOR THE ENTIRE EVENT (including clinic).  Be sure to have enough proper safety boats for the event, i.e., dinghy regattas must have inflatable ribs!

·         Establishes communication with coaches and go over their responsibilities with the PRO and CJ.  Provide enough coach boats and the proper kind; work with the Head Coach.

·         Asks the PRO for feedback after each day on the water

o    Tell them your concerns, if any

o    Do they need anything else?

·         Maintains  full and frank communication with the PRO

·         Runs “the show” on land
