US Sailing clinics are intended to improve sailors’ racing skills. Participants are expected to be familiar with tacking, gybing, some spinnaker skills, and capable of managing a boat in up to 20 knots.
US Sailing clinics are open to both members and non-members; members will enjoy a discounted rate. The clinics are intended to assist small to medium size sailing organizations to gain access to quality instruction and help them bring their programs to the next level. These are not learn to sail clinics.
US Sailing sets the entry fee. In exchange, we will contract US Sailing Level 2 coach(es) and provide them with a small travel stipend. Hosts will provide a boat for the coach and cover any additional travel costs if any. For the participants, US Sailing will provide free online registration and materials for each clinic (see attached sample curriculum and materials list). The number of instructors varies with the minimum clinic size of 10 singlehanded or five (5) multihanded boats per clinic. In other words, you will get a complete clinic upon the arrival of the instructor!
One day clinics are $110 for non-members, $70 for members. For the Novice Clinics, all participants will receive Winning in One Designs by Dave Perry (or a similar text depending on the boats used), Racing Signal Flags Sticker and a Handy Guide to the Rules, a $40 value. Two day clinics are $160 for non-members and $120 for members. Participants in the Intermediate/Advanced Racing Clinics will receive Understanding the Racing Rules of Sailing and 100 Racing Rules Quizzes ( a $48 value).
If a host has a US Sailing Certified Level 2 coach it wishes to hire, please provide their name and contact information on the form below. Preference will be given to local Level 2 coaches to keep costs low but if a host has another certified coach it would like to use, please let us know. Note: Level 2 coaches come with $10 million in insurance coverage and are backed by US Sailing.
